Edmond is a certified medical illustrator and a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Art from University of Southern Mississippi in 1967. Edmond held positions of Director of Medical Art, Assistant Director of Medical Illustration Services, and Director of Marine Biomedical Illustrations, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX, 1967-75. Edmond served as Assistant Professor of Medical Art at the Graduate Program of Biomedical Communications at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, 1975-1981. He was Director of Creative Services, Associated Media, Inc. Dallas, TX, 1982-1984. In 1984 Edmond joined with Cynthia Turner to form the Alexander & Turner Medical Illustration Studio in 1984, where they create medical illustration for medical publishers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and their agencies.
Edmond has received numerous awards from the Association of Medical Illustrators, including Best Medical Color, 1987 and 1988, Best of Show in 1981 and 1991, and Best in Advertising in 2007. He is also the recipient of other art, photographic and media production awards from Texas Scientific Communicators, Biologic Photographic Association, Health Science Communication Association, New York International Film and Television Festival, Houston International Film Festival, SeaSpace International Underwater Photography Exhibition, Fort Worth and Austin Addy Awards.
Edmond's work was selected to exhibit in the juried Art of Medicine exhibition, Society of Illustrators, New York, 1987 and is included in the annual juried RxClub Show - Best in Medical Advertising. Edmond's work has been featured in The Best in Medical Advertising, Rockport Publishers, 1989 and 1991; featured in The Guild Handbook of Scientific Illustration, Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1989; and showcased in Kai's Power Tools and Studio Secrets, IDG Books Worldwide, 1996. His illustrations have been showcased in Medical Advertising News for Drug Delivery, Penwest Pharmaceuticals; Proleukin, Chiron; Erbitux, ImClone; DNA Microarrays, Genetic Microsystems; Humate-P for von Willebrand's Disease, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer; and blocking mast cell degranulation by Intal Inhaler, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer.
Edmond has served on the Medical Illustration Graduate Program Advisory Council, 1991 - Present, American Medical Association Accreditation Review Board - Medical Illustrator, 1990-1993, and the Board of Governors, Association of Medical Illustrators, 1989 - 1993. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at each of the five accredited graduate programs for medical illustration in the US and Canada.
